sir,
279
Registrar-General's Office,
Hongkong, 22nd. January, 1904.
Since the Sth. December last I have had to correct nine errors in the office Cash Book under the heading Audit numbers. It was only the day before yesterday that I warned the First Clerk, Mr. Bullin, about these and I find another error of omission this morning. I have also found on two separate oc- -casions that the First Clerk has on adding up the receipts from Market Rents entered the correct total although he had omitted to enter some of the items. These repeated errors must be due to incompetence or gross carelessness and it is therefore my duty under the Financial Instructions to bring them to the notice of his Excellency the Officer Administering the Government.
I have etc.,
›(Sd.) A. M. Brewin,
Registrar-General.
The honourable
A. M. Thomson,
Acting Colonial Secretary.
